The key pieces of information you need to have ready are the desired outcome of your direct mail project and the call to action. This will determine the most suitable mailing format options for your campaign – such as a letter, postcard, or one-piece mailer. Once this has been established, it’s helpful to have the following details available:
- Approximate mailing quantity
- Size and format (e.g. A5, A4)
- Number of pages
- Preferred paper quality and type (uncoated, silk, gloss, recycled)
- Colour or black and white printing
- Whether the mailing is personalised or generic
The Mailing People will guide you through the most cost-effective production and postage options, balancing budget with the impact you want to achieve.
All direct mail methods can have a variable response rate dependant on the design, call to action, level of personalisation and good, clean data. A typical response rate of 3% would be a good starting expectation.
A postcard is often the quickest and most cost-effective option, making it ideal for flash sales, special offers, or short, impactful messages. Other formats – such as letters or brochures – can be just as cost-effective depending on factors like volume, format, and campaign objectives. The most suitable option will ultimately depend on the balance between budget and what you want to achieve.
Typically, from receipt of stock and data, a mailing project will take around 3-4 days to produce and despatch, dependant on mailing quantity.
There is no maximum quantity to send a direct mail campaign.
There is no minimum quantity to send a direct mail campaign, but postage discounts will apply from quantities of 500 and above.
Typically, keeping a mailing piece under 240mm x 165mm (including the outer envelope, polythene, paper wrap etc) and under 100g in weight will provide the most cost-effective solution for mailing.
