Frequently Asked Questions
The Mailing People can track your mail up to the point of handover to Royal Mail. Most bulk mailing projects are mailed using an untracked service as this is the most cost effective. Tracked postal services are available but can vary greatly in cost.
Economy Class mail is typically delivered within 4-6 working days. To qualify for Economy postage rates, a minimum mailing quantity applies of 4,000 letters or 1,000 large letters.
First Class postage is designed for faster delivery, with mail typically arriving the next working day and a delivery aim of 1-2 working days.
Second Class postage is typically delivered within 2-3 working days. There is no minimum quantity required to mail Second Class.
For a mailing of 10,000 A5 letters, approximate postage costs would be:
- First Class: around £1.59 per item
- Second Class: around 34.1p per item (based on advertising mail rates)
- Economy: around 27.9p per item (based on advertising mail rates)
DSA stands for Downstream Access. It refers to a postal service where approved providers carry out the initial stages of national mail sorting before handing items over to Royal Mail, who then complete the final local sortation for delivery to letterboxes. Because DSA providers handle part of the sorting process on Royal Mail’s behalf, they are able to offer reduced postage rates, making DSA a more cost-effective option for bulk mail campaigns.
First Class postage is designed for faster delivery, with mail typically arriving the next working day and a delivery aim of 1-2 working days. Economy postage is the most cost-effective option, with delivery usually taking 4-6 working days. To qualify for Economy rates, a minimum mailing quantity applies – 4,000 letters or 1,000 large letters.
DSA providers (The Delivery Group, Whistl, Citi Post, UK Mail etc) typically offer the same level of sortation service and will print a different postage impression on the envelope. Some offer a better discount based on volume but typically, they all provide the same service.
Typically, keeping a mailing piece under 240mm x 165mm (including the outer envelope, polythene, paper wrap etc) and under 100g in weight will provide the most cost-effective solution for mailing.
The Mailing People typically use The Delivery Group and Royal Mail, but have partnerships with most mainstream DSA and postal partners, including UK Mail, Whistl, Citipost and One Post.
